Nucleic amplification tests help to overcome the problems in detecting Chlamydia pneumoniae, Legionella and Mycoplasma pneumoniae

چکیده
Current concepts of diagnosis and treatment of CAP are risk stratified and adapted to the national resistances of important pathogens. Thorough surveillance systems have to be implemented in all countries. The risk of patients can be assessed reliably with a limited number of clinical data (CRB-65 score). Extended microbiological and laboratory diagnosis is recommended for hospitaliszed patients only. Outpatient treatment can be performed with classic antibiotics like amoxicillin or doxycyclin. Macrolides are only an alternative in these patients. In the hospital, treatment has to be adapted to the severity of the disease. Further studies concerning the duration of treatment and advantageous combinations are necessary. Recommendations for treatment of CAP have to be adapted to the quickly changing epidemiology and have to be updated every 2 to 3 years.

SIMULTANEOUS DETECTION OF CHLAMYDIA PNEUlvlONIAE AND MYCOPLASMA PNEUMONIAE BY PCR
Both C. pneumoniae and M. pneumoniae are common causes of respiratory tract infection. At present, both are still diagnosed in the laboratory retrospectively by serology. This is despite many publications which indicate that PCR, which is not retrospective, is extremely good at detecting these organisms. We thought that a single PCR test which could detect both organisms simultaneously in a...

Molecular diagnostic techniques, such as polymerase chain reaction (PCR), are promising tools for the rapid etiological diagnosis of pneumonia. PCR offers potential advantages over conventional tests for the detection of Mycoplasma pneumoniae, Legionella species, and Chlamydia pneumoniae. For pneumococcal pneumonia in adults, PCR adds little to existing diagnostic tests and is unable to disting...

Background Atypical respiratory pathogens such as Mycoplasma pneumoniae, Legionella species, and Chlamydia pneumoniae are isolated with increasing frequency from community-acquired pneumonia (CAP). This study highlights the importance of organisms responsible for CAP. Methodology: One hundred consecutive patients with clinically and radiographically diagnosed CAP were evaluated from October 200...
متن کاملChlamydia pneumoniae detection in atherosclerotic plaques in Italy.
Italian investigations have shown an association between Chlamydia pneumoniae infection and atherosclerosis. With the use of several diagnostic techniques, including serology, a microimmunofluorescence test, and nucleic acid amplification methods, a temporal association was found between acute C. pneumoniae reinfection and acute myocardial infarction, suggesting that an acute infection superimp...
متن کاملHigher incidence of persistent chronic infection of Chlamydia pneumoniae among coronary artery disease patients in India is a cause of concern
BACKGROUND There is growing evidence that Chlamydia pneumoniae may be involved in the pathogenesis of atherosclerosis, as several studies have demonstrated the presence of the organism in atherosclerotic lesions. C. pneumoniae infections, which are especially persistent infections, have been difficult to diagnose either by serological methods or isolation of the organism from the tissue. Nuclei...
